Expanding Horizons: Our Leap into Education at Southwest Safety
Hey there,
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about a new chapter for Southwest Safety Consulting: we’re diving headfirst into the world of education! After eight years in business, five years of balancing my journey at Brandon University ...all while juggling the beautiful chaos of late nights cramming, mom life—think gymnasiums, endless rinks, and yes, a few meltdowns—I can see the finish line (ish)... I can't hang the ol learning specs up just yet. However in just one month, I’ll be waving my BA Degree (HSE & Disaster Management), and I couldn’t be more EXCITED!!!! This will be my stepping stone to lock me into my next career goal... Common if you know me, you can't tell me you thought that was the end...stay tuned for more deets on that.
Now, let’s be real. Life has been a blur. If you’ve ever tried to juggle a business, a degree, a hubby, and kids—or even just the career and kids part—you know it’s like trying to spin plates while riding a unicycle. Spoiler alert: I’ve dropped a few plates along the way! But through it all, I’ve learned a crucial lesson: continuing education is key to growth and success, especially in our fast-paced, ever-evolving world.
With technology advancing daily, we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve. That’s why we’re creating engaging, hands-on courses that fulfill legislative requirements while keeping learners awake and eager to learn (no more snooze-fests, I promise!). We want our participants to leave feeling empowered and ready to apply their newfound knowledge in real-world situations.
Let’s face it—traditional education can often feel like a trip to the dentist: necessary, but not exactly thrilling. Textbook-heavy approaches can bore learners right into a nap. Instead, we’re infusing our courses with real-world examples, case studies, hands-on training, multimedia, role-play, and more! It’s all about making the learning experience relevant and enjoyable. After all, who doesn’t want to learn while having a little fun?
For instance, instead of just reading about safety regulations, learners will engage in simulations that mimic real-life scenarios. We have leaned on our partnerships, and industry leaders to help us dial in our courses. It’s all about making the learning experience relevant and enjoyable!
This week, I stepped out of my comfort zone to take my First Aid Instructor Training and had the pleasure of working alongside a seasoned first aid instructor with over 20 years of experience. This guy was a walking encyclopedia of hands-on knowledge from his time as EMS in Winnipeg. I picked up a handful of cheesy jokes you can bet I am 100% using in the future classroom setting when I teach. I also met a fantastic gal with a strong background in the industry who runs a safety company of her own out of Brandon. Sooo if you're in need of; safety supplies, training, consulting, or drug and alcohol testing give Safety Chicks a shout. Collaborating with Courtney over the last couple of days reminded me that in this industry, we’re not competitors; we’re allies! Who knows? We might just create the next big thing together!
As we gear up to launch our first round of courses by mid-summer, I can’t wait to see how these changes will reshape the learning experience in health and safety. Together, we can make learning engaging, impactful, and downright enjoyable!
So, here’s to new beginnings, collaborative spirits, and a future where education is anything but boring.
Cheers to growth, knowledge, and a few good laughs along the way!
